Ridiculous things men do before hosting a party

If you don’t have inside jokes with your partner, are you even married?

There’s a term I use often in our house: Blowing Leaves. This is term I coined for Mr. KK, on a Thanksgiving morning about a decade ago (when I first wrote about this). It perfectly describes the different mentalities between moi and the hubs when it comes to “getting ready” for a holiday.

I saw this on social media today, and it inspired me to re-share this post, as it’s one of my favorites.

(remember this was 10 years ago. RIP Vito the Wonder Dog)

It was Thanksgiving morning, I had been up early, halving a million pounds of Brussels sprouts, slicing and baking Ina Garten’s Parmesan crackers, and assembling a veggie tray. There were still quite a few things to be done – not to mention me showering and drying my hair, which could take forever in itself – and with only two hours left, even if we didn’t stop to pee or drink something, we’d be cutting it close.

I was piling raw broccoli onto the glass platter when my husband walked by me dressed in windy pants, wool socks, a flannel coat and a winter hat. He was carrying gloves and headed towards the door to the garage.

“Where are you going?” I asked him. He was clearly dressed for the outdoors.

Was he running out to get something we forgot to buy?

Are the stores even open today?

“I’m going outside to blow leaves. The yard and patio are covered,” he replied, sensing nothing wrong with this answer, while we were T minus 2 hours until our guests arrived. “I should only be a half hour or so.” And with that, he was gone. Minutes later, I heard the blower start up and saw leaves swirling in a million directions as he made his way across the patio. Vito was on his feet immediately, barking at what he thought was a crazy stranger on our property. Because who else would be outside doing yard work on a holiday mere hours before 12 people were coming over?

Only a madman, obviously.

The definition of Blowing Leaves is this: starting a task that bears no relevance whatsoever on the situation at hand, and having said task take up WAY too much time and energy, both of which you do not have.

Maybe your husband’s ‘blowing leaves’ is just one more quick video game before you’re due at a friend’s wedding. Or maybe it’s trying to fix that leaky pipe under the sink that he needs just 10 minutes for as you’re walking out the door to meet your parents for dinner. Or maybe, he’s scrolling Instagram while you’re multi-tasking like a bad ass.

No matter what the activity, every husband blows leaves.

And that’s why we love them.

May your week be easy, and the leaves stay on the trees.

It’s Been Great, Thanksgiving

Yesterday we dined on turkeys next to trees, our house having been fully decorated for Christmas (sans trees) for a week. And guess what? Everyone survived! You actually CAN have Thanksgiving dinner while your halls are decked and the mantel is glistening.

Every year I do a Thanksgiving recap in photos, so here goes:

Our “night before Thanksgiving” partying craziness has turned into putting the leaves in the dining room table, ironing a tablecloth and being in bed by 9:30pm.

Our one drink the night before Thanksgiving because “we have a lot to do tomorrow”.
Me, at 5am, mentally preparing for the day.
Super proud of my Turkuterie!
Frying one of the turkeys in the rain!
So very thankful for a delicious meal with family, and so much more.
A house full of wiener dogs.

And I couldn’t resist this, since Mr. KK is NOTORIOUS for blowing leaves on Thanksgiving when we’re getting ready for guests to come:

Except this year it was raining, so he blew “pine needles” on Wednesday, and then spent Wednesday night washing and cleaning glasses and dishes that we were not going to use on Thanksgiving! Love you, sweetie!

And now, it’s Black Friday. Though according to retailers, it’s been Black Friday since November 12th. I’m sitting on the couch, covered in puppies and a blanket, enjoying tea and typing, while Little Mister sleeps like the almost-teenager he is.

It is officially the start of Christmas! We’re getting trees! We’re decorating those trees! We’re playing Christmas music! We’re shopping online! I can barely contain my excitement!

Monday I will be hit with reality as I board a plane for a work trip. Making the most of the start of the Christmas season as I can this weekend!

The best fall cocktail

Each year when we host Thanksgiving, we like having a signature cocktail for the day. Something that embodies fall flavors, is relatively easy to make in batches, and that can give that little turkey day buzz we all need.

And because we can’t just serve a cocktail cold turkey (see what I did there?), we have a day or night where we’ll test out cocktails to see which ones makes the cut. Last year’s cocktail – the Brown Sugar Cranberry Bourbon cocktail – (and the entire cocktail tasting day) was delicious.

This year, Mr. KK and I were taste testing on our own, and we started with just one cocktail. And it was a winner – no further testing needed! (However, I should probably drink a few more of the chosen cocktail to make sure it’s exactly perfect).

This year, we will be shaking up the Fig Bees Knees.

Fig Bees Knees Cocktail

Makes 1 cocktail.

Ingredients:

2 oz gin
1 oz honey syrup (see note below)
1 oz lemon juice
1 Tablespoon fig preserves
Sprigs of thyme
Fig slices (for garnish)

Directions

In a cocktail shaker, add the gin, honey syrup, lemon juice, fig preserves and 2 sprigs of thyme. Add ice and shake vigorously.

Strain into a coupe glass and garnish with a sliced fig and thyme sprig.

Honey syrup:

Combine 1 cup of water and 1 cup of honey in a small sauce pan over medium heat. As the honey starts to melt, continue stirring until the honey and water are completely combined. Store is air tight container.

Cheers!

Thanksgiving Recap: Photos, Recipes and Ransom Videos

We made it to Thanksgiving! Since this is our holiday to host, our house was buzzing with excitement and a tiny bit of stress, good smells and anxious dogs.

The day started when I woke up at 5:13am, mentally going through my checklist of what had to be done.

I also had to drag my ass to a 7:30 Power Barre class. But at least I got to see the Thanksgiving sunrise.

And when I got home, Mr. KK didn’t disappoint.

After a smoothie, it was time to prep for the day.

Priorities: juice the oranges for our signature cocktail!

Next up, appetizers: figs with gorgonzola wrapped in prosciutto.

At Mr. KK’s request: the pumpkin shaped pimento cheese ball.

Pre-game cocktail before guests arrive!

Sides are ready for the oven.

Double check my Type A agenda for the day.

Kept this beast on a leash until the guests arrive to minimize the madness and barking. (Didn’t work, but he looks so handsome in front of my oven)

Appetizer time!

Stuffed mushrooms (recipe).

Stuffed figs in all their glory.

Then it was time to get down to business.

Homemade pasta from the chef.

Then onto to main event. Two full turkeys this year, one in the oven and one in the outdoor fryer.

And all the glorious sides! The standouts were the corn casserole (recipe) and the brussels sprouts gratin (recipe). This year Little Mister ate 6 bites of turkey, jello and corn casserole…almost a legitimate meal.

We were way too stuffed for dessert, but we ate it anyway.

Rocco and Bruno hung out with Tony for the day.

Post-dessert activities included the millennials trying to help me get back into my Facebook account on my computer. Which ended in my holding up a pad with a code and recording a ransom video that I sent into Meta.

A little after 10pm the last guest left, and we were all pooped. Especially Bruno.

I hope everything had a lovely Thanksgiving with family and friends.

NOW THE CHRISTMAS SEASON CAN OFFICIALLY START.

Thanksgiving Prep Tips

And by “tips” I mean my crazy prep schedule to get ready for the day before Christmas Decoration, known to many of you as Thanksgiving.

My mental prep for Thanksgiving starts weeks earlier as I lie in bed at 5am scrolling through recipes. Eventually we work up to the week of Thanksgiving and that’s when the magic really happens.

The Thanksgiving Prep Timeline

Weekend before Thanksgiving: Fix the oven.

Inevitably, something will happen to our stove, as it does every year. And like clockwork, our small oven stopped working at the end of last week. So Mr. KK had to quickly order spare parts and hope that 1. those were the parts that would fix what was wrong and 2. if we could actually fix it. Sunday morning, Mr. KK fixed the oven. My hero!

Monday before Thanksgiving: Create the master menu list.

I take out my trusty notebook that I use for all holidays and parties and make the master list of what I’m going to make for Thanksgiving. I then go through each recipe and list the ingredients that I need to purchase under each item. This involves cross-checking the recipes with what I have in the pantry and fridge. I also put all of the recipes in one place (usually in the Notes app on my phone) so I’m ready to go. Meanwhile, Mr. KK makes his to-do list for Thanksgiving. This usually includes things like “remove the screens from the windows” and “vacuum out the fireplaces”. You know, Thanksgiving things.

Tuesday before Thanksgiving: Make the Shopping list.

This is the day I take the Monday list of ingredients and create the actual shopping list that I’m going to use on my trip. This entails organizing all of the ingredients on a fresh piece of paper in the order of how the grocery store is laid out.

Once the list is made, I will then go through my recipes and map out what needs to be made on Thursday, and what prep work and dishes I can put together on Wednesday. Mr. KK prepares the brine for the turkey that we’ll be frying. I also went to BJ’s to pick up a few items that would bankrupt me at the regular grocery store.

Wednesday Before Thanksgiving: Official Prep Begins

7am: enter the grocery store, list in hand. Hopefully find everything that I need to prevent a second trip later on.

On the list to prep on Wednesday:

  • Juice fruit for cocktails (priorities!)
  • Make cranberry sauce
  • Prep side dishes
  • Toast bread for stuffing
  • Have my first “we’re off for four days” cocktail
  • Put the leaves in the table
  • Go to the liquor store (Mr. KK)
  • Manicure (kk)

Thursday: The Big Day

7:30am: attend a cardio barre class. This year, I’m going to kickstart the day by working out so I can feel energized!

And then, the madness begins!

  • Prepping sides
  • Putting sticky notes on every casserole dish with the temperature for the oven and how long it needs to cook
  • Setting alarms on my phone labeled “put turkey in oven” and “turn on turkey fryer” to help keep my sanity throughout the day
  • Have a cocktail
  • Set the table
  • Take out all the platters and serving bowls
  • Mix up the batch cocktail
  • Wipe down the counters
  • Put out the snacks
  • Get ready for the show!

And you already know what Friday morning is….KK up by herself at 5am quietly removing turkeys and pumpkins and acorns from around the house…

Inflation Has Hit the Christmas Trees

If you’ve gone to a grocery store in the last year, you’ve see the ridiculous rise in costs on just about everything you buy. Items I frequently purchase have gone up $1 or more in the last year. Household staples like mayonnaise, chicken stock and milk have astronomical prices. And don’t even think about produce; since when are strawberries $7 a container? No matter where you go, prices are insane.

This weekend I was at our local produce store and saw a sight that made me almost cry happy tears: the Christmas trees had arrived! This place is usually our first (and only) stop when it’s time for the annual pilgrimage to pick out the Christmas Trees. No need for us to trudge through a field to find a tree and cut it down ourselves (who has time for that?). Instead, we’re able to shop easily (and quickly!) to find the perfect trees. Yes, trees plural. Two. Though I’d get three if we had the room.

I was so excited to see the trees that I took a photo and sent it to Mr. KK. Now, we have already compromised that I must wait until 12:01am on the Friday after Thanksgiving before I can start decorating for Christmas. Perhaps Mr. KK feels our meal may taste differently if he’s surrounded by trees vs turkeys. So the Friday after Thanksgiving is pretty much “Sparkly Friday” over here, because that is when the bins (and bins, and bins) of Christmas decor make their way up from the basement so I could deck the halls all day long. Cue the Christmas channel on Spotify!

In my excitement to send Mr. KK the below photo, I didn’t read the sign next to the trees.

The price for a 6-7 foot frasier fir tree is $89.99.

$90 for a short tree.

No one loves Christmas more than I do, but $90 for a tree that grows naturally outside? Maybe it was my little local shop realizing they could be charging more like the tree farms.

But a quick Google search showed me this: “Data from the National and the American Christmas Tree Associations state the average price of an authentic Christmas tree is between $80 and $100. This reflects about a 10% increase that occurred in the last year, largely due to inflation and drought.”

I looked back in photos from past years of our tree outing, and found a photo from 2021 where Mr. KK is holding up our tree, and the tag on it reads $65. Yep, $25 less only 2 years ago.

“So why don’t you spend $200 on an artificial tree and use it every year it would be so much cheaper?”

Great question! Because I like having a real tree. I love the smell. I love the tradition. I love the slight imperfections. And did I mention that piney smell?

When I was growing up, we had an artificial tree. This was back in the late 70s when artificial trees bore zero resemblance to actual trees. Our tree had a dark green metal pole that snapped into a metal X. Inside the box were about 30 “branches” that you stuck into the holes in the metal pole until you had a plastic-looking, sparse “tree” that would go up in flames if it ever came near fire.

Now you can find artificial trees that are incredibly realistic. I imagine if I had two large boxes with trees in them and we had to find room to store them in the basement, Mr. KK might throw all my Christmas decor on the lawn and light it on fire.

I have designated the first Saturday in December as the day we will get our Christmas trees. It’s early enough that we can enjoy it for weeks, but not too early that it will dry out and drop brown needles before Santa comes.

I will do my homework and price shop real trees before December 2, and find the best place for us to go: a balance of cost and quality of trees. We’ll have our usual discussion on tree shape because Mr. KK likes a taller, tapered tree while I prefer a big, fat, round tree (translation: more lights and ornaments!), so we agree on something between the two. By the evening on Sunday, December 3, our tree will be up, lights on and decorating can commence.

Here’s my time-lapse video of decorating last year – enjoy!

Holiday Cocktails Sampling, With Recipes

Now that it’s November, I am in full-on holiday mode. And while Christmas is my most favorite time of the year, I have to give a little holiday love to Thanksgiving, especially since we host everyone on turkey day.

Every holiday needs a festive cocktail. This weekend, we put several recipes to the test to determine which cocktails would be the stars of the gathering for Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. And you get a front row seat.

First up, the Brown Sugar Cranberry Bourbon Cocktail. This festive cocktail showed up in my Instagram feed from @cheesegal. She had me at sugared cranberries.

INGREDIENTS:
3 ounces bourbon
2 ounces 100% cranberry juice (not cran cocktail)
1 ounce fresh lemon juice
3/4 ounce rosemary cranberry brown sugar simple syrup

DIRECTIONS:
First, make the simple syrup by bringing equal parts brown sugar and water to a quick boil until sugar dissolves. Turn off the heat, and throw in a few sprigs of fresh rosemary and cranberries. Let steep for at least 20 min.

She didn’t give exact measurements for the simple syrup so here’s what we used:

100g brown sugar
100g water
30g rosemary whole
150g fresh cranberries

Rim your cocktail glass with some of the simple syrup and dip into brown sugar, then add a festive ice cube*. Pour cranberry juice, bourbon, lemon juice and simple syrup into a cocktail shaker full of ice, and shake well. Strain + pour into prepared glass and garnish with rosemary + some frosted cranberries.

*We did not make festive ice cubes for taste testing but likely will do something for the real thing.

Ours was not as brightly colored as hers was, but the flavor was delicious.

Verdict: Definitely in the running.

Next up: the Spiced Cranberry Sparkler from @cocktails.

Ingredients

1.5 oz bourbon
1 oz spiced honey syrup
Juice of 1/2 an orange
2 oz cranberry juice
2-3 dashes of orange bitters
3-4 oz Prosecco (we used club soda)
Ice
Garnish:
Dehydrated orange slice
Star anise
Rosemary
Cinnamon sugar rim (we skipped this for sampling)

Spiced Honey Syrup:

300 g honey
100 g water
Cinnamon stick
Ground nutmeg
Pumpkin pie spice
Ground cloves

Directions

Put all ingredients for spiced honey syrup in a small pan over heat. Still until all ingredients have melded and honey and water are fully combined. Remove from heat.

In a shaker with ice (she stirred in a pitcher but we were in a shaking mood), mix bourbon, syrup, orange juice, cranberry juice, bitters and shake. Strain into a rocks glass over ice and top with club soda (or prosecco, but we thought that would make the drink too sweet) and garnish.

Woah, this ones goes down easy. It’s the perfect mix of warmth and spice with a bubbly kick at the end.

Verdict: Perfect for Thanksgiving

Next up: Fall Old Fashioned. This recipe is from @thirsywhale_

Ingredients

1.5 oz Rye or Bourbon
½ oz Aged Rum
½ oz Pumpkin Syrup
4 dashes Aromatic Bitters
2 dashes Orange Bitters
Orange Peel

Pumpkin Syrup
1 can pumpkin pie
2 cups brown sugar
1 cup water
Pumpkin pie spice to taste (you may want more or none at all, up to you). Heat on stove and stir until incorporated, then fine strain.

Directions

Still all ingredients (except orange peel) in a cocktail pitcher with ice until blended and chilled. Strain over a giant ice cube and garnish with an orange peel.

Verdict: this one was a little too potent for me, but the guys really liked it. The pumpkin syrup, however, smelled divine and would be delicious over vanilla ice cream.

Our taste test was a success! The winners are:

Cheers!

Happy Thanksgiving…Told In Pictures

This post is always meant to be one you can “read” with mindless scrolling through photos to experience our Thanksgiving. For those keeping track at home, the day started at 6:30am and ended at 10pm when the last guest left. A full day of food, laughs and drinks.

This photo diary includes recipes from our Thanksgiving meal! So here we go!

Today started before the sun came up. This is me, Black Friday shopping and simultaneously planning out the day’s timeline while lying in bed.

If you look closely you can see the reflection of the phone in my glasses.

I shared this tip last year, but here it is again. Your 2 best friends on Thanksgiving Day are: chicken stock and your phone – the alarms on your phone that is. I plan my whole day out and set alarms to keep me honest.

Next, you should be sure to taste taste everything to see if it needs more salt, or more bourbon.

Crazy hair, no makeup and full-on prep mode. Taste-testing the punch at 10:39am.

Our first step in making Thanksgiving a little easier (besides my phone alarm trick) was to make a punch ahead of time so we could eliminate the need for Mr KK to make 1,000,000 drinks before he could get a sip of his own cocktail. This punch was a crowd pleaser! Highly recommend – here’s the recipe for Bourbon Rosemary punch.

Aren’t they beautiful?

When we prep for hosting, I’m usually in charge of the inside of the house – which includes watching the dogs and entertaining Little Mister – while Mr. KK handles the outside. Yesterday was a little over 50 degrees, so we were able to set up our patio heater and chairs on our new deck in case anyone wanted to get some fresh air.

Mr. KK in his signature party day move: blowing leaves.
Two minutes before everyone arrived…let’s hope this all goes well! (Little did I know the fried turkey fiasco that was to follow!)

No one wanted to enjoy the deck…but we found 5 minutes to take a breather out there.

Let’s talk turkey…and everything else!

We did 2 turkeys again this year: a full turkey in the fryer (house in still intact) and a turkey breast in the oven. Both turkeys came out amazingly juicy! My mother-in-law preps the turkeys, and my father-in-law drives the birds over the morning of Thanksgiving and enjoys a drink with Mr. KK (and me!). Our turkey breast had a garlic and herb marinade and the fryer turkey had a rub on it.

Everyone makes jokes about my mother-in-laws breasts (we are nothing if not inappropriate) as part of tradition.

Another punch for me!

Thanksgiving Menu 2022

Appetizers

Butternut Squash Soup Shooters with Creme Fresh. I used this recipe for the soup and it was delicious. The sage and ginger really added a depth of flavor.

Caramelized Onion and Gruyere Rugelach

Every Christmas I make cinnamon and sugar rugelach, but this is a savory take on one of my favorite cookies. I used this savory rugelach recipe, but substituted gruyere for the cheddar, and candied pecans for the candied walnuts, just to put my own spin on it.

Interestingly, I found the recipe in a magazine – yes, a paper magazine – and I didn’t even look it up. Well, if you click on the recipe link, you’ll see that this recipe only got 1.5 stars from 2 reviewers. From personal experience, this recipe got 5 stars across the board from our family! Perhaps it was the subtle changes I made (nuttier cheese vs boring cheddar). But I highly recommend. Plus, you make it with pre made pie dough so it’s super easy.

Getting ready to cut and roll the rugelach.
Here they are! The can brown quite a bit on the bottom when the sugar from the pecans oozes out, but that just adds flavor!

The last appetizer I made was the Spicy Whipped Feta from this blog post. Somehow, I didn’t get a pick of it, but it was also really good; I served it with baby naans.

Soup Course

Our cousin (cousin in law?) made a delicious, light soup. I’m going from memory, but it was a veal stock with chicken and mortadella meatballs, with escarole and ditallini. It was the perfect first course!

Main Meal

The turkeys were the real stars of the show, and TBH, I don’t even really love turkey. But I loved picking off the crispy skin and dark meat that fell off the fried turkey!

That is one nice looking breast (well, two actually).
Dueling carvers! And a very messy kitchen!

This is happiest Mr. KK looked after an hour of stress when the new turkey fryer pan set up DID NOT WORK and he put the turkey in the oil and it barely covered the turkey. This was after the oil wasn’t hot enough and we had to heat it for another half hour. This was all going on while we were serving up the soup course, so thankfully no one heard all the swearing going on in the front yard. But it all worked out and we ended up with one golden brown bird. The best part about the fried turkey is that a 16 pound bird cooks in about 45 minutes!

For sides, we had stuffing (made with sourdough, apples, pancetta and apricots), mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, dressing and Ina’s Cacio e Pepe Asparagus.

All assembled, it looked like this:

Little Mister was not a fan of any of the food we were serving (aren’t 8 year olds fun??) but he agreed to try some foods (which was a win). Here is his plate, which could easy be called “Deconstructed Thanksgiving” and be served in a Michelin Star restaurant for $50.

After he finished “eating” the plate looked the exact same except a small piece of turkey was gone (he gave turkey a “Maybe”), the tip of the asparagus was missing (10 minutes of chewing with a weird look on his face) and all of the sweet potatoes were gone (“this tastes like pumpkin pie filling”).

Dessert

Pecan pie, pumpkin pie and cheesecake!

I am done fighting with WordPress and why it keeps adding this photo upside down. I have tried to fix this about 4 times. You get the idea.

I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving with loved ones!

8:04am…time to start changing this house into Christmas!

Thanksgiving Prep, A Car Accident & My First Adult Bevy Since October

Well, today was a DAY!

It started at 6am when I was up crying in the kitchen chopping onions for various holiday dishes. Last night I made my checklist like a Boomer and was ready to go this morning. On today’s prep list: stuffing, soup, cranberry sauce, appetizer prep and cocktail juices.

Me, mentally preparing myself for the day before the sun comes up.
Allergic to apples, but I still put them in the stuffing!
Can I use every pan in the house? Challenge accepted.
The most important parts of the prep…cocktail prep!

After finished my Thanksgiving prep in what I thought was record time, I found myself with a day off from work and time to spare until I needed to be at the bus stop so I headed to TJ Maxx to make a return. And when I returned to my car, I found this:

A woman got out of her car when I approached mine. “Excuse me, miss?” she said. And she immediately gained points for not calling me ma’am. “I was leaving you a note. I hit your car.” And then the day went downhill.

So a cop came, we exchanged information, I got a police report that said I wasn’t in the car when this happened and then I was on my merry way back home.

Fast forward to 3pm, when it felt like an appropriate time to have my first adult beverage since October (since October, people!), so the 3 of us went to a brewery to have a beer. And man, did it taste GOOD. Mr. KK and I had beers, Little Mister looked like this:

Mr. Too Cool for School. This in a window into his teenage years, I’m sure.

Tomorrow, is my annual Thanksgiving post in pictures. Possibly with recipes. Definitely with cocktails.

Happy Thanksgiving Eve. If you’re out drinking with your high school friends, god love ya. If you’re home drinking after your kids to go to bed, I feel ya. Cheers!

Christmas, cooking, thanksgiving

It’s Thanksgiving Week, B*tches!

Or, as I like to refer to it: 5 days until Christmas is unleashed!

This is the week when it starts to feel like the holiday season. I spent today in Christmas glory at an inspirational store near her house that was filled with all the decor and scents and greenery you could ever want. It was the kind of place that had decor for houses without children or dogs. So. Much. Glass.

Here are a few photos from how beautiful it was! I could have walked around all day!

I loved this sugar plum themed tree. There were about 10 different themed trees.
Everything was beautiful blown glass; basically stuff I can have in 10 years.
These were some gorgeous christmas tress. I love when places hang them from the tops so you can see what they will look like fully opened! When we go they are all wrapped up and we have to shake it loose and use our imaginations.

So the upcoming week looks like this:

Monday: This is a big week because…(drumroll)…tomorrow is WEIGH IN DAY for the end of the Fit 2 Feast challenge! FINALLY! Tomorrow morning at 6:45am I will find out if my hard work paid off and if I lost any pounds and any body fat. If the scale does not move, I may legit cry ugly tears at the kickboxing studio. If I find out I didn’t have any cocktails or french fries or ice cream or – and this is hard to believe – CHEESE – for three weeks for NOTHING, I will be mucho mad. Then off to a full day of work. Then helping sort pies for our PTA pie fundraiser.

Tuesday: It’s Colonial Day at school, so I’m helping out during my lunch hour. while they kids go from room to room to make different “old timey” crafts. All I know is Little Mister needs to bring in an orange (??) and I donated pipe cleaners and large popsicle sticks. Then Little Mister is double-booked for a hair cut and his first basketball practice. We really need that pre-holiday haircut, but I may have to move it to accommodate the first basketball practice.

Wednesday: Game On! I took the full day off to do all of my Thanksgiving cooking and prep. I’ll be making soup, stuffing, parts of appetizer recipes. I’ll be juicing grapefruits and lemons for cocktails. Then apron down and a manicure and dinner out for some non-challenge-worthy food (hopefully the night before Thanksgiving crowds aren’t too crazy!)

Thursday: Turkey Day! Wake up at the crack of dawn and set my 47 timers and prepare for the day! Every year on this day my blog post is a Thanksgiving in pictures…and this year will be no different!

Friday: Buh-bye gourds, hello garland! I hope to have all the fall stuff put away by 10am so I can start bringing up the Christmas bins. I plan to be decorating for at least 4-5 hours. I did concede and we will not be getting our tree this early. That will be the first weekend in December.

And you know who comes the weekend after Thanksgiving…

He’s coming baaaaack…..
